Lois Weinberger’s (1947 – 2020, Austria) artistic research pioneered the linking of art, society, and nature.
His sculptures and installations were on view at Documenta in 1997 and 2017, as well as many solo exhibitions like in the year 2019 at Museum Tinguely in Basel and Watari-Um Museum in Tokyo. Earlier at S.M.A.K., Landesmuseum Ferdinandeum, Musee d’art moderne St. Etienne and many more.
The sculpture „Untitled“ is a heavy iron cast, published in an edition of 10 by the artist and Salzburger Kunstverein in the year 1992. It has the form of a bag with a hole going through it. Questions about the possibility of storing and archiving information within a form and a specific material are immediately coming up. Questions, which were typical for the often artistic-archaeological work of the artist.
Works by Lois Weinberger are part of many important art collections, like S.M.A.K. Ghent, Generali Foundation, mumok and Belvedere, Vienna.
