Kaucyila Brooke (*1952, USA) is an artist based in Los Angeles. Brooke’s multidisciplinary practice addresses the politics of cultural production and sexual representation. In diverse narrativized and serial formats—including large-scale photomontages, photo novellas, and photographic archives—she reevaluates the status of the photograph as object.
The edition „Untitled (Nail)“ was published by Galerie Andreas Huber on the occasion of Brooke’s solo exhibition at the gallery in 2007. The artist took the photograph in 1999 in a completely emptied flat in Los Angeles, where the nail was one of the few signs of the former inhabitant.
Works by Kaucyila Brooke were exhibited in several solo exhibitions at Echo Park Film Center L.A., Badischer Kunstverein and Neuer Aachner Kunstverein, as well as in many international group exhibitions like at mumok Vienna, Halle für Kunst Lüneburg and Kunsthall Bergen.
Works by her are part of several institutional collections, like at mumok Vienna, Generali Foundation, The Art Institute Chicago, MMK Frankfurt and the Getty Center L.A..
