ED - Editions
All prints issued by the publisher that are identical in appearance to the proof approved for the final print run. An edition of 50, for example, consists of 50 identical prints, numbered 1/50, 2/50, 3/50, and so on. If the prints are not identical, by artist´s intention, this is noted by adding the term "unique" or "each copy of this edition is unique".
AP or EA - Artist´s Proof or Épreuve d'Artiste
Artist´s proof prints. Those are prints in the same quality of the prints in the regular edition. They are reserved for the collection of the artist. The numbering of the APs is often, though not necessarily, given in Latin numerals. An edition of 30 + 5 APs for example, is numbered ED 1/30 + V AP and the APs itself would be numbered I / V AP, II / V AP, III/V AP and so on.
PP - Printer´s Proof
Proof for the printer who collaborated with the artist during the creation and printing of the edition. Intended for the printer's archive.
HC or NFS - Hors de commerce or Not for Sale
Hors de commerce, French for "outside of trade" refers to prints not intended for a regular sale. These are often artist property, gifts, or serve as advance proofs and promotional samples for galleries.
