Exhibition 9. September - 24. October 2026
Marking the inaugural exhibition at and the editions´s new venue at Löwengasse 18, this presentation is also the first solo exhibition of Palme's work in Vienna since her passing.
Over several decades, Margit Palme devoted herself tirelessly to the highly complex printmaking technique of aquatint etching, exploring a wide range of themes. Her motifs—predominantly depictions of women and animals—are marked by beauty and convention, yet these qualities are repeatedly disrupted by unsettling details such as pills, knives and pistols.
The exhibition juxtaposes a series of strong, self-determined women with a rarely exhibited group of introspective portraits. In doing so, it reveals the complex and ultimately ungraspable range of Margit Palme’s oeuvre.
Works by Margit Palme were most recently on view in her solo exhibition Der Blick, Lentos, 2024; as well as in the group exhibitions The Animal Within, mumok, Vienna, 2022/23; What the Fem, NORDICO, 2022/23; Ulrike Müller. Monument to My Paper Body, Ludwig Forum Aachen, 2023/24, Flower Power at the Landesgalerie Niederösterreich and the Zurich Biennale at the Kunsthalle Zürich, 2023/24.
