Endre Tót (*1937, Sümeg, Hungary) developed a remarkable mail art network. While introducing a range of unconventional artistic media to the local art scene, he simultaneously distributed postcards, questionnaires, artist’s books, and Xeroxed works across the globe through the postal system. These exchanges connected him with Fluxus artists including Ben Vautier, Ken Friedman, George Brecht, John Armleder, Gilbert & George, Yoko Ono and Dieter Roth. In the early 1970s, Tót formulated several key concepts—among them “Nothing/Zer0” and “Rains and Gladnesses”—that would remain central to his artistic practice for decades, including after his move to Cologne, Germany, in 1980. Among the earliest examples of conceptual art in Eastern Europe, these works addressed universal themes through a poetic and often subtle visual language.

Works by Endre Tót are part of the collections of many international institutions, like MoMA New York, Tate Modern London, MACBA Barcelona, Museum Ludwig in Cologne and ZKM Karlsruhe.
