Sofie Thorsen's work Donau, Stromkilometer 1943,9 depicts a spiral that is almost invisible in daylight (see image 2), but which glows in the dark, unfolding an almost sculptural, three-dimensional presence (see image 1).
In the eponymous video work, dancer and choreographer Andrea Gunnlaugsdóttir performs with a series of white abstract sculptures, including a spiral, on the banks of the Danube at river kilometre 1943.9, just after sunset. The last light of the evening, amplified by the Danube, is reflected off the white, curved surfaces of the sculptures and captured by the camera lens. The film, filmed by Hannes Böck, can be seen online at Ursula Blickle Video Archiv here.
The 2026 calendar, commissioned by energy provider EVN, is made up of 12 stills from the film.
This limited-edition print was published by the artist and EVN alongside the calendar.
Sofie Thorsen (*1971 in Århus/Denmark, living and working in Vienna) is represented by Galerie Krobath.
